FAQ

What is sheep wool fabric?

Our fabric is made from 100% shorn sheep wool, knitted into a nylon grid for strength and shape retention, then stabilized with a medical‑grade acrylic compound for washability. This ensures the body lies on pure wool fibre — not hide — while meeting IPAC guidelines.

Why a nylon grid?

  • Prevents fraying
  • Maintains shape better than cotton or wool alone
  • Similar to nylon reinforcement in wool socks
  • Renewable and sustainable

Why an acrylic stabilizer?

  • Developed in Germany for high‑standard washability
  • Used safely for decades with no reported allergies
  • Allows full machine washability to 70°C
  • Ensures long‑term durability

How does wool help with pressure injuries?

Wool distributes weight evenly, reduces pressure points, and stabilizes temperature — key factors in preventing ulcers and supporting healing.

Is wool good for night sweats?

Yes. Wool absorbs moisture without feeling wet and releases it into the air, keeping sleepers dry — especially helpful for menopausal night sweats.

Is this the same as sheepskin?

No.

  • Sheepskin = hide + wool attached
  • Sheep wool fabric = shorn wool fibre knitted into a backing
Our products use sheep wool fabric, making them washable, breathable, and humane.

Why Wool?

Wool is one of nature’s most advanced performance fibres, breathable, durable, and exceptionally comfortable. It creates a stable, balanced sleep environment that works for all types of sleepers, all year round.

Temperature Regulation

Wool naturally keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. It adapts to your body temperature, making it ideal for hot sleepers, cold sleepers, and couples with different comfort needs.

Moisture Management

Wool absorbs 30–40% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp. It pulls humidity away from the skin and releases it into the air, keeping bedding dry, fresh, and comfortable through the night.

Naturally Clean

Wool is naturally antimicrobial and antibacterial. It resists odour, mildew, and bacteria, staying fresher longer and requiring less washing than synthetic bedding.

Pressure‑Soft Comfort

Wool fibres gently cushion the body, reducing pressure points and helping muscles relax. This creates a softer, more forgiving sleep surface that supports deeper rest.

Breathable & Non‑Clammy

Unlike foam or polyester, wool never traps heat or moisture. It stays breathable and comfortable, preventing the “hot and sticky” feeling common with synthetic bedding.

Renewable & Sustainable

Wool is a renewable fibre shorn from sheep annually. It’s biodegradable, long‑lasting, and produced with far less environmental impact than synthetic materials.

Humane Alternative to Sheepskin

Our products use sheep wool fabric, not sheepskin.

  • Sheepskin = hide + wool
  • Sheep wool fabric = shorn wool fibre knitted into a backing

This makes our products washable, breathable, and humane, the sheep keep their hide, and the wool grows back naturally.

WASHABLE WOOL DUVET

This Washable Wool Duvet is washable in a front European loader with the wool cycle only, or you will shrink them as they are carded wool. Hang outside with high moisture in the air; sheep wool absorbs 30 to 40 per cent of its weight in moisture; once you bring it indoors, it will release the dampness in the air, and as a result, you refresh your wool duvet. There is a self-cleaning action.

Wash it as desired or dry clean.
One hundred per cent cotton or flannel sheets are recommended for the maximum benefit of being in wool bedding. Synthetics don't breathe, and you will block the wool from keeping you at core body temperature and absorbing the 2 ounces of vapour moisture studies show the human body loses every hour. moisture

Why Choose Sheep Wool Duvets?

Wool, a natural and biodegradable fibre, offers many benefits, making it a superior choice for clothing and bedding. Not only is it environmentally friendly, but it also provides exceptional insulation, moisture-wicking properties, and flame retardancy.

Natural and Biodegradable

Organic and Pure Wools are entirely natural and biodegradable fibres. Unlike washable, non-biodegradable wool, these wools are derived from sheep and are altogether sustainable. Sheep produce new wool yearly, making it a renewable resource.

Thermal Efficiency

Wool is renowned for its thermal efficiency, making it an excellent insulator. Throughout history, wool has been used in clothing and bedding because it keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. Its unique structure traps air, creating a layer of insulation that helps regulate body temperature.

Moisture-Wicking Properties

In addition to its insulating properties, wool is also moisture-wicking. This means it has the ability to draw sweat and moisture away from your body, keeping you dry and comfortable throughout the night. By regulating your body temperature, wool can improve sleep quality and promote a more restful sleep.

Flame Retardancy

Wool is an excellent flame-retardant material due to its high ignition temperature. Compared to other fibres, wool is much less likely to catch fire. This inherent flame retardancy makes it a safe choice for clothing and bedding, providing peace of mind and added safety.

Experience the benefits of wool for yourself. Choose Organic and Pure Wools for natural, sustainable, high-quality comfort products. From clothing to bedding, our wool products offer superior insulation, moisture-wicking properties, and flame retardancy, ensuring a comfortable and safe experience.

100% Natural

Wool is a completely natural fiber, produced year-round by over 68 million sheep in Australia. These sheep thrive on a simple diet of grass, water, fresh air, and sunshine.

Biodegradable

Once wool fibers are discarded, they naturally break down in soil within a few years, gradually returning beneficial nutrients to the ground.

Naturally Breathable

Merino wool is highly breathable, with fibers that can absorb significant amounts of moisture vapor and release it into the air through evaporation.

Wrinkle Resistant

On a microscopic scale, each Merino wool fiber acts like a tiny spring, bouncing back to its original shape after being bent. This natural elasticity helps Merino garments resist wrinkling.

100% Renewable

Australian sheep grow a new fleece annually, making wool a fully renewable natural fiber.
