Wool Manufacturing Process
How is the Sheep Wool Fabric Made
The Sliver Knit Process — Softness with Purpose
At Soul Comfort, healing begins with how things are made. Our wool fabric isn’t woven — it’s sliver knit, a specialized method that preserves the natural loft, breathability, and resilience of sheep’s wool. This process allows us to create therapeutic textiles that support comfort, circulation, and skin integrity.
🧶 Step 1: Knitting the Wool
We start with strands of pure sheep wool, drawn into a tube by our knitting machines — much like knitting a sock.
🔹 Two machines knit heavier, denser fabric
🔹 Two machines knit lighter, more flexible panels
🔹 A blade inside the machine slices the tube open into a flat sheet

🔍 Step 2: Inspection & Repair
Each panel is carefully inspected. Any small imperfections are mended by hand to ensure durability and long-lasting comfort.

✂️ Step 3: Cropping
We trim the wool pile to a precise height. This defines the texture — plush and cozy or smooth and breathable — depending on its purpose.
🌬️ Step 4: Tumbling (Optional)
For extra softness, we tumble the fabric to create a Sherpa-like effect. This enhances loft and gives the wool a gentle, cloud-like feel.

💧 Step 5: Stenting & Waterproofing
The fabric is stretched and stabilized (stented) while we apply a breathable acrylic compound.
