Medical Sheep Wool Mattress Overlay

Natural comfort, moisture control, and pressure relief for healthier sleep

Sheep’s wool has been used for centuries to support healing, comfort, and skin protection  and for good reason. Our Medical Sheep Wool Mattress Overlays are made from 100% pure wool fabric and designed to keep your body dry, warm, and supported all night long.

Wool naturally regulates temperature, carrying its own gentle warmth to keep muscles relaxed and reduce morning stiffness. It also absorbs 30–40% of its weight in moisture, pulling humidity away from the skin and releasing it into the air. This prevents the dampness that leads to irritation, skin breakdown, and bacterial growth, something synthetic materials simply cannot do.

Our overlays provide pressure redistribution and off‑loading, helping protect the coccyx, hips, shoulders, and heels. If an area of skin becomes reddened, placing wool underneath often shows visible improvement within hours.

Wool Density Options

We offer four wool pile densities so you can choose the perfect level of softness and support:

For Everyday Comfort (Non‑Health Use)

  • 550 gram  ideal if you already like your mattress and want breathable comfort

  • 700 gram  perfect if you want extra cushioning and softness

For Health & Skin Protection

  • 850 gram (1" pile)  excellent for pressure relief and moisture control

  • 950 gram (exclusive to Soul Comfort) a unique blend of ½" wool woven between 1" pile for maximum density, comfort, and protection

If you find your mattress too firm or uncomfortable, the 850 g and 950 g densities offer the most relief.

Designed for Home & Medical Use

All overlays include four elastic straps to keep them securely in place. For hospital beds, we add two extra Velcro straps at the crease lines to prevent buckling and pressure points  . Simply mention this in the comment box at checkout.

A bonus: Sheep wool keeps menopausal women dry during night sweats, thanks to its exceptional moisture‑wicking ability.

What Is Sheep Wool Fabric?

Our wool fabric is made from:

  • real wool fibres (sheared from the sheep)

  • a soft nylon grid

  • a medical‑grade acrylic stabilizer

This creates a plush, breathable material that looks like sheepskin but without the hide  , making it machine washable up to 70°C and suitable for medical environments.

Care Instructions

  • Machine wash on delicate in cool/lukewarm water (up to 70°C)

  • Use wool soap with lanolin (e.g., Eucalan)

  • Air dry or tumble with no heat

  • Remove from dryer at about 85% dry

  • Spot clean with warm water and disinfecting soap

  • Avoid bleach, high heat, and direct sunlight

Wool is naturally antimicrobial and doesn’t require frequent washing.

100% Natural

Wool is a completely natural fiber, produced year-round by over 68 million sheep in Australia. These sheep thrive on a simple diet of grass, water, fresh air, and sunshine.

Biodegradable

Once wool fibers are discarded, they naturally break down in soil within a few years, gradually returning beneficial nutrients to the ground.

Naturally Breathable

Merino wool is highly breathable, with fibers that can absorb significant amounts of moisture vapor and release it into the air through evaporation.

Wrinkle Resistant

On a microscopic scale, each Merino wool fiber acts like a tiny spring, bouncing back to its original shape after being bent. This natural elasticity helps Merino garments resist wrinkling.

100% Renewable

Australian sheep grow a new fleece annually, making wool a fully renewable natural fiber.
