Baby Wool Mat —A Gentle Return to the Womb
Our Baby Wool Mat is crafted from medical‑grade wool that naturally regulates temperature, absorbs moisture, and holds the comforting scent of mom or dad. Wool is the closest material on earth to the womb — warm, breathable, grounding, and deeply calming to a newborn’s nervous system.

•     Temperature-regulating wool keeps babies near their natural 37°C
•     Moisture‑balancing fibres absorb perspiration and waxy newborn moisture
•     Breathable and safe — naturally flame‑resistant, no chemicals
•     Scent‑holding wool fibres help the baby settle with the smell of mom or dad
•     Portable newborn sleep surface for crib, bassinet, stroller, car seat, or travel
•     Hypoallergenic & natural — ideal for sensitive newborn skin
Perfect For:
Newborn sleep, colicky babies, contact‑nappers, scent‑soothing, temperature‑sensitive babies, and parents seeking natural, chemical‑free sleep solutions.
Sheep's Wool provides a sense of comfort and security, a gentle reminder of the warmth of the womb. It acts as a natural insulator, providing warmth in winter and coolness in summer. Its ability to retain body heat helps regulate core temperature year-round, alleviates gas, and aids digestion.

What is the difference between sheepskin and sheep wool?

Sheepskin is the hide of the animal and includes the wool attached to the hide. In a sheepskin, the wool remains attached. Sheep wool is the fibre sheared off the sheep and used to make various wool products. At Soul Comfort, we use sheep's wool to make most of our products.

What is sheep wool fabric?

The fabric used in our products is a combination of wool fibre (sheared from sheep), a nylon grid, and a medical-grade acrylic liquid stabilizer. It is made using a process that takes the loose wool and ‘knits’ it into the nylon grid. Then, acrylic is used to stabilize the wool and create a flat surface for cutting the fabric. This results in a material that looks like sheepskin, without the animal's hide. As a result, the wool is machine washable.

How to Use Your Baby Wool Mat
Simple, Natural, Effective
1.     Place the wool mat under your baby in the crib, bassinet, stroller, or car seat.
2.     For deeper sleep, imprint your scent by wearing the cotton cover for a few hours.
3.     Use consistently — babies thrive on familiar sensory environments.
4.     Machine wash the cotton cover; spot clean the wool as needed.

Give Your Baby the Womb Environment They Remember

General care:

Expect a small amount of shedding when the product is new, as it may release some loose fibres. You can machine air-fluff (no heat) for 5 minutes to remove excess fibres. Keep away from high heat and direct sunlight.

Over time and with more use, wool fibres will naturally bind together, creating a more ‘clumped’ look. This change in the look does not affect the performance of the wool. You will still receive all of the natural and beautiful benefits. If you prefer a fluffier look, you can brush the product with a metal brush after laundering.

With care, your wool products will last many, many years.

Washing instructions:

Machine washable on delicate setting in cool/lukewarm water (up to 70°C) with a wool soap containing lanolin, such as Eucalan. Air drying is recommended. You may use a dryer WITHOUT HEAT to fluff your product. Remove from dryer before it dries completely (up to 85%). The excess moisture will not be felt and will quickly disperse into the air.

Wool is anti-microbial and will not need excessive laundering. To freshen your product, air it out by hanging it outside when the air is moist, out of direct sunlight. When you bring it back inside, the wool will release the moisture into the air. This moisture redistribution results in a refreshing. If there is a staining spot, clean it with warm water (up to 70°C) and Eucalan soap to ensure the wool remains soft. Do not bleach.

100% Natural

Wool is a completely natural fiber, produced year-round by over 68 million sheep in Australia. These sheep thrive on a simple diet of grass, water, fresh air, and sunshine.

Biodegradable

Once wool fibers are discarded, they naturally break down in soil within a few years, gradually returning beneficial nutrients to the ground.

Naturally Breathable

Merino wool is highly breathable, with fibers that can absorb significant amounts of moisture vapor and release it into the air through evaporation.

Wrinkle Resistant

On a microscopic scale, each Merino wool fiber acts like a tiny spring, bouncing back to its original shape after being bent. This natural elasticity helps Merino garments resist wrinkling.

100% Renewable

Australian sheep grow a new fleece annually, making wool a fully renewable natural fiber.
