Why Choose a Merino Sheep Wool Pad for Your Chair

Many people sleep in their chairs, and pressure injuries become a real concern. Wool offers a unique combination of comfort and clinical protection:

Breathability & Moisture Control

Wool fibres have a natural crimp that creates air pockets, allowing airflow and moisture wicking. This helps regulate body temperature and keeps the skin dry.

Pressure Relief

Wool’s natural elasticity distributes weight evenly, reducing pressure points and minimizing the risk of bed sores or pressure ulcers.

Antimicrobial Protection

Lanolin in wool naturally discourages bacteria and dust mites, making it a hygienic choice for sensitive skin or respiratory concerns.

Thermoregulation

Wool keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer, maintaining a stable core temperature for uninterrupted rest.

Choosing wool for your chair can significantly improve comfort, sleep quality, and skin health.

Sheepskin vs. Sheep Wool Fabric

  • Sheepskin = hide + wool attached

  • Sheep wool fabric = wool fibre shorn from the sheep, knitted into a backing

  • Our overlays use sheep wool fabric, making them washable, breathable, and humane

What Is Sheep Wool Fabric?

Our wool fabric is made from:

  • 100% wool fibre (shorn from sheep)

  • Knitted into a nylon grid for strength and shape retention

  • Stabilized with a medical‑grade acrylic compound

This creates a washable, durable material that looks and feels like sheepskin, without the hide.

The nylon grid prevents fraying and adds strength (similar to wool socks reinforced with nylon). The acrylic stabilizer, developed in Germany, ensures full washability and has been used safely for decades with no reported allergies.

General Care

  • Expect light shedding at first, this is normal

  • Air‑fluff in the dryer (no heat) for 5 minutes to remove loose fibres

  • Keep away from high heat and direct sunlight

  • Wool may “clump” over time, this does not affect performance

  • Brush with a metal brush after washing if you prefer a fluffier look

With proper care, your wool products will last many, many years.

Washing Instructions

  • Machine wash on delicate in cool/lukewarm water (up to 70°C)

  • Use wool soap with lanolin (e.g., Eucalan)

  • Air dry recommended

  • You may tumble dry without heat to fluff

  • Remove at 85% dry, remaining moisture will dissipate quickly

  • Spot clean with warm water (up to 70°C) and disinfecting soap if there is concern for bacteria

  • Do not bleach

Wool is naturally antimicrobial and does not require frequent washing. To freshen, hang outside in moist air, out of direct sunlight.

100% Natural

Wool is a completely natural fiber, produced year-round by over 68 million sheep in Australia. These sheep thrive on a simple diet of grass, water, fresh air, and sunshine.

Biodegradable

Once wool fibers are discarded, they naturally break down in soil within a few years, gradually returning beneficial nutrients to the ground.

Naturally Breathable

Merino wool is highly breathable, with fibers that can absorb significant amounts of moisture vapor and release it into the air through evaporation.

Wrinkle Resistant

On a microscopic scale, each Merino wool fiber acts like a tiny spring, bouncing back to its original shape after being bent. This natural elasticity helps Merino garments resist wrinkling.

100% Renewable

Australian sheep grow a new fleece annually, making wool a fully renewable natural fiber.
